Delta to start new Cape Town-US service

Delta Air Lines is planning to start service between Cape Town and the United States this spring. Subject to government approvals, the US airline will begin flying from Cape Town to Atlanta on 25 October, using its flagship Airbus A350-900, one of the newest and most fuel-efficient aircraft types in Delta’s fleet.

The westbound service will offer the only year-round nonstop service from the Western Cape to Atlanta from where customers can connect on to destinations across North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.

On the return journey, the flight will stop in Johannesburg before continuing to Cape Town.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, cleanliness is at the heart of Delta’s global operations. Customers will see the new standard of clean measures in place, which include:

  • Requiring employees and customers to wear a face mask or appropriate covering when travelling
  • Sanitizing the aircraft before every flight
  • State-of-the-art air circulation systems with HEPA filters that extract more than more than 99.99% of fine particles in the air, including viruses and bacteria, on all trans-Atlantic flights (and across most of Delta’s network)
  • Boarding flights from back-to-front – reducing the instances of customers needing to pass by one another
  • Temporarily streamlining onboard food and beverage service
  • Providing supplies directly to customers when available, including hand sanitizers in wellness kits

Delta’s flights between Johannesburg, Cape Town and Atlanta are scheduled as follows:

Flight Number Departs Arrives
DL204 Johannesburg at 17:15 Cape Town at 19:30
DL204 Cape Town at 21:30 Atlanta at 06:45 (next day)
